SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a pair of fatal crashes that occurred this weekend in Clark County.
The first crash occurred about 12:10 p.m. Saturday on State Route 54 and Plattsburg Road, and closed the roadway for approximately 3 hours.
Daniel Johnson, 56, of London, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers report he failed to yield the right of way at a posted stop sign and was struck by a southbound pickup operated by Martin Dillard, 59, of South Vienna. Both vehicles slid off the right side of the road and the Johnson vehicle struck a residence at the corner of S.R. 54 and Plattsburg Road.
Mr. Dillard was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight with non-life-threating injuries.
A juvenile passenger in the Johnson vehicle was taken to Springfield Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The homeowners were not injured.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Harmony Township Fire and Rescue Department assisted on scene.
In the second crash at 11:46 p.m. Sunday, a South Vienna teen was claimed in a crash on Selma Pike at Old Springfield Road.
Cady M. Reed, 18, of South Vienna, drove left of center and struck a sports utility vehicle operated by Kyle Nelson, 21, of Springfield.
Mr. Nelson and his passenger were transported to Springfield Regional Hospital by Springfield Township EMS with minor injuries.
Ms. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene. The Springfield Township Fire and Rescue Department and Green Township EMS assisted on scene.
