Leadership at the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 132 in Bellefontaine are working to get their liquor license back after state officials informed them earlier this week the request to renew the permit was rejected because of unresolved tax issues.
According to spokesmen for both the Ohio Department of Commerce, which oversees the Division of Liquor Control, and the Ohio Department of Taxation, the request to renew the license was denied because of issues involving sales taxes.
Club management was notified earlier this summer that the action was pending and meeting took place to try to resolve the issue, but the club was unable to fulfill the tax department’s requirements in a timely fashion, taxation department spokesman Gary Gudmonson said.
