Accused pastor served in area but not as a Methodist

A Thursday story regarding David A. Young, 46, incorrectly reported he served as a pastor at the East Liberty United Methodist Church.

During the early 2000s, he was a pastor in the East Liberty but not at the Methodist congregation, members report.

He has been charged with 20 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for alleged incidents involving a teenage girl at Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church in Rio Grande.

He was arrested Oct. 16 by agents with Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Crimes Against Children and deputies of the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.

The Rio Grande area girl was between 13 and 14 years old when the assault is alleged to have occurred. Conviction on the third-degree felony carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Mr. Young is being held in the Gallia County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The attorney general’s office is trying to confirm whether or not he was a pastor in East Liberty.

Anyone with additional information regarding Mr. Young can contact the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 855-BCI-OHIO (855-224-6446).
