Sex offender turns himself in

David A. Shaffer Jr., 34, turned himself into deputies at the Logan County Sheriff’s Office about 8 p.m. Wednesday after he had failed to report as a registered sex offender.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals had been searching for the defendant since last week.

In 1999, he was convicted of attempted statutory rape of a 14-year-old female victim in West Virginia. His last reported address is 269 Grove Ave., Lakeview.

He is currently incarcerated in the Logan County Jail for a felony count of failure to register as a sex offender.
