In the first crash at 2:36 p.m., Marjorie Oliver, 65, of West Mansfield reportedly was operating an eastbound minivan on C.R. 57 when she failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a southbound car on U.S. 68 operated by Martina Hemmeger, 79, of Belle Center.
The minivan then traveled off the roadway and overturned.
Both Ms. Oliver and her passenger, Helen Elliott, 93, of West Mansfield, were transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Ms. Himmeger also reported possible injuries, and was transported by BMRT squad to an area hospital.
Ms. Oliver was cited for a stop sign violation.
Personnel from Huntsville squad and the Bellefontaine Fire Department also responded to the scene, which tied up traffic in the area.
Then at 4:30 p.m., a second crash occurred at the intersection when Allison Marie Hartness, 19, of Laurel, Md., was operating a northbound sport utility vehicle that struck the rear of a northbound car operated by Ashley Wall, 16, of Bellefontaine, that had slowed to make a turn.
Ms. Wall reported possible injuries but was not transported.
Ms. Hartness was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
