Bellefontaine’s boys soccer team is beginning to make a habit of running into perennial state power Kettering Alter in the postseason.
Playing the Knights for the third time in four seasons, Bellefontaine came away with a 6-1 loss in a Division II district championship game Saturday afternoon in Franklin. Alter was able to build a 5-0 lead before Bellefontaine got on the scoreboard with a goal from Anthony Vicario off an assist from Aaron Dunn. Alter then added another insurance goal to round out the scoring. Despite the loss, the Chiefs enjoyed another stellar campaign this fall. They finished the season with a record of 15-4-2, which is a school best. “I’m proud of the way we played today,” said BHS head coach Steve Henry. “Even though the score is as lopsided as it is. We did a great job of keeping possession, but we got caught sleeping on their counter-attacks. “This was a great season, though. This group of seniors played in four sectional finals and won three of them. They have set a new standard for our program that the younger players can set their sights on. If we want to be able to compete with the Alters of the world, we’re going to have to do better in the off-season to prepare ourselves.” Alter (11-1-7) advances to play Bexley in a regional final Tuesday at Fairborn High School. |
