TROY — Logan Leis has had an extremely busy sports season this fall after competing in three sports, but he isn’t done just yet. The Benjamin Logan multi-sport standout has one weekend left to compete after earning a state berth here Saturday at the Division II regional cross country meet. Leis, a cross country and soccer standout who also handled the kicking duties for the football team, finished eighth with a time of 16:44.88 to qualify to the state race. The top four teams and any remaining individuals placing in the top 16 advanced to the state meet Saturday at Scioto Downs in Columbus. Bellefontaine’s boys finished ninth as a team, while Indian Lake’s Rachel Watt and Kayla Beltz and the Chiefs’ Katie King were also in action, but did not qualify through to the state meet. Saturday’s race was the culmination of a long season for Leis, and earning a state berth put the exclamation point on it. “I’m happy to get my personal best and make it out to state,” said Leis. “I felt I had a chance to qualify. I got some extra practice in this week with soccer being over, so I think that helped me some, too.” The senior was ninth at the two-mile mark and was able to move up one more spot before the finish line. Leis explained that it was an emotional weekend for him. For the complete recap, pickup a copy of Monday's Examiner. CLICK HERE to subscribe today! |
