A brief discussion over whether the village of Belle Center will continue to collect trash was overshadowed with a heated debate over whether a recently appointed village council member should be allowed to serve.
The discussions came at the Thursday evening monthly village council meeting that was rescheduled from the regular date.
Council is currently weighing its options whether to raise rates and continue to collect trash, contract with a private company to provide the service or allow residents to either contract with a trash hauler or use the Logan County Solid Waste Management District’s green bag drop-off site.
Council and Mayor Rhonda Fulmer have been soliciting feedback from residents about the options and the issue was tabled until further comments can be gathered.
Belle Center and West Liberty are the only municipalities in Logan County that offer municipal trash collection.
