More than $15,000 raised for murder victim’s sons

Gage and Gavyn Heitman may not yet know what they want to be when they grow up, but they do know what they want to drive.

“Gage wants a Mustang,” their grandfather Larry Brown said. “And Gavyn wants the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.”

More than $15,000 raised at a Saturday evening fundraiser will go a long way toward making those future dreams come true.

“I think it went great,” said Bobbie Jo Welch, the boys’ great-aunt who organized the event for the family. “I’m amazed how much we were able to raise. It’s astronomical.”

The family is using the money collected Saturday, along with about $5,000 in previous donations, to set up a trust fund for the two boys.
