Versailles stops WL-Salem in sectional final

West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team could not have gotten off to a better start than it did Saturday in the Division III sectional final against top-seeded Versailles.

Fourth-seeded WL-Salem came out on fire, winning the opening set 25-8.

However, Versailles quickly seized the momentum and refused to give it back. Versailles won the next three sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-19) to get the victory.

WL-Salem ends its season with a 20-3 record.

For WL-Salem, Kayla Peterson capped off an outstanding career with 18 digs, 23 assists, five kills and three blocks.

Becka Peterson provided 21 digs, 13 kills and four blocks for WL-Salem. Autumn Klinger had 10 assists and 11 digs and Addie Kendall chipped in seven kills.

Versailles advances to play Purcell Marian in the district title game Saturday at Tippecanoe High School.
