BUCKEYE BUZZ: Hyde gives OSU offense a physical look

matt hammond

When most fans think of a spread offense, they think of finesse.

But Ohio State and first-year head coach Urban Meyer have taken the spread and placed a physical stamp on it this fall.

Meyer likes to call his offense a “power spread.” While a lot of spread offenses are built on getting their smaller, speedy players in space, the Buckeyes are still doing a lot of work between the tackles.

Junior running back Carlos Hyde is becoming a big factor in the Buckeyes’ attack. The physical 6-1, 235-pound junior rushed for a combined 296 yards and five touchdowns in wins over Nebraska and Indiana over the last two weeks.
